The Benricks Skate Park, Ilfracombe

The project comprised the design and construction of a 50m x 25m concrete skate park complete with all ancillaries and external works to comprise landscaping, fencing, storm water drainage, remedials to footpaths and the like. The park was designed to complement the park previously built in Barnstaple and was focused on ’street’ apparatus, some of which had never been built before, together with a large quarter pipe.

North Devon Council appointed Gates Construction Consultants as Employer’s Agent and CDM Coordinator to deliver the skate park. As part of our appointment  we provided pre-contract services to include liaison with the local Architectural Liaison Officer in respect of concerns over crime and the local authority in respect of concerns over noise pollution. In addition the park met all RoSPA requirements and was formally certified.

Working closely with the end user group and Contractor during the design development meant that the best possible value scheme was delivered which closely met the requirements of the local skaters.

The project was delivered on time, below the contract sum and to a very high standard.
