This year’s British Fireworks Championships was another spectacular success! 🥳

From our office at Queen Anne’s Battery, we were treated to a stunning view of the dazzling displays. Surrounded by friends, family, colleagues, and clients, the evening was filled with awe and excitement as the sky lit up with vibrant colours and intricate patterns. The atmosphere was electric, and the camaraderie among everyone present made the experience even more memorable.

It is a pleasure to continue our working relationship for Spaghetti Bridge Ltd, taking on a multidisciplinary appointment as Project Managers, Quantity Surveyor, Contractor Administrator, Principal Designer and Clerk of Works.

Spaghetti Bridge are a specialist educational provider for Children with Social, Emotional and Wellbeing needs.

We have been working with them on their ambitious expansion project over the past 3 years, and Chilton Bridge was the first of 4 projects we have delivered for them over this time, with schools in Plymouth, Paignton and Yelverton already open and operating.

Phase 2 at Chilton Bridge is well underway which involves significant refurbishment of the external envelope of the main house, a grade II listed building. It is always a pleasure to work on these types of projects, old buildings present unforeseen challenges to overcome during the build, but the workmanship involved and end result bring great job satisfaction.

We have recently completed major extension & alteration works on a private residential property in the depths of Cornwall, & wanted to share the amazing slate roofing works by Lizard Roofing – bear in mind that there was only one eyebrow roof window when they started! Credit also to Marraum & Trelowarren Estate (Principal Contractor) – tricky scheme & difficult to get materials (or anything) to site!

Gates Consultants were employed as Project Managers, Contract Administrators & Quantity Surveyors at Douglass House. Gates Consultants have provided Project Management Services to Spaghetti Bridge Group (Spaghetti Bridge Ltd) to realise refurbishment of a former school within the Millfields, Plymouth.
Chapelbridge School is an independent school supporting children with a range of needs who have significant barriers to learning in conventional, educational settings.
Their ethos is to provide an individualised approach to learning, centred around well being and skills for independence.

"This is definitely one of our more quirky projects – and one of the most interesting!" Lynn Brooks, Principal Designer, Gates Safety Management.

We are currently working with The National Trust at their A La Ronde property in Exmouth as Principal Designer for the restoration of the Shell Gallery, Feather Frieze & Octagon in A La Ronde. The Shell Gallery & Feather Frieze are of significant historical importance, resulting from the Grand Tour of Europe by the Parminter cousins in 1784, two highly unconventional ladies of their age.

The Shell Gallery is located in the tower at the top of the octagonal A La Ronde building, accessible only by extremely old, narrow & very uneven stairs. Safe access to this confined working space was subject to bespoke RAMS. Though the building remains closed during the winter, there will also be concurrent working with visitor access during the coming Spring & Summer. The Trust were keen to allow visitors to be able to see some of the restoration work to the Feather Frieze, in the lower floors of the building, so a safe means of visitor access also had to be established.

At the end of last year Gates Safety Management completed Principal Designer services for the complete re-roofing of boarders accommodation at Shebbear College.

The roof had been severely damaged earlier in the year by Storm Eunice & the damaged roof was replaced with a new Bauder roof system, together with work carried out to water damaged electrics & internal finishes. Whilst the programme was established to carry out as much of the work during the summer holiday period, there was still an overlap between site work & a fully functioning school with both boarders & day pupils present. GSM worked closely with both the College & the Principal Contractor to put together a safe & appropriate site access methodology that worked for both the College & the site work.

Gates Safety Management are currently working with Housing 21 on another project at Diamond Court, Worle. An extension to the existing development of 20 Extra Care apartments, to include landscaping, infrastructure & services connections. The project value is circa £8 million & we are currently working with the Principal Contractor & the Client to progress the final issue Health & Safety files, in addition to carrying out regular CDM Audits. Site specific hazards: a very tight site footprint with limited access & challenging materials storage issues, all of which were covered in pre-construction work with both the Contractor to mitigate & manage the risks associated with these hazards

Gates Safety Management Ltd (GSM) are currently Principal Designer for Aster Homes for their development at Loperwood Lane in Totton. The development is progressing well, with first handovers of a phased handover process imminent.

The development consists of 80 new dwellings, a mix of shared ownership and social rent tenures on a greenfield site just outside of Southampton. GSM are carrying out CDM audits for Aster during the construction phase at present on a busy site with numerous different trades working concurrently. Completion and handover of the final plots is programmed for spring 2023.
